Battle of the Christmas Trees
Every year after Christmas, the youth of the islands of Gothenburg's Northern archipelago in Western Sweden battle each other for the trees left over after Christmas. As people throw out the used trees, kids and teenagers from different islands collect and hide as many as they can get their hands on - and gather for raids to neighbouring hideouts. The goal is to collect the most trees, so as to be able to build the tallest of the islands' Easter bonfires. Half a century ago these battles took place in other places in Sweden as well, even as far north as Kiruna.
